PROJECT ONE

REDEVELOPING A CRUMBLING HERITAGE STRUCTURE AS AN ARTS CENTRE/STUDIO SPACE ON OUR RURAL OUTREACH (DHASA, GUJARAT)

Bang opposite the current and only available space that doubles up as a studio when it is not being used by the local high school (its rightful owners), is a heritage structure that has been around since the late 1800s, in the division of Gopalgram, in the region of Dhasa.

Because of its completely dilapidated state – crumbling walls, rickety pillars and rusty girders, it is currently in no state to be used for any purpose at all.

We hope to transform this space by redeveloping it for use as an Arts Centre and Studio space, which can accommodate our existing lot of Girls and Women as well as the new entrants/whole batches that are constantly joining our Junoon.

We hope to host collective Arts programs, operate the lessons of the holistic Junoon Method as well as showcase the creations, practice and commitment of our multi-talented cohort of Girls and Women on our Rural Outreach.

We are majorly short of space in our current setup and often have to practice and rehearse outdoors in extreme weather conditions. The transformation of this particular heritage structure and its availability to us will truly make learning and sharing the Classical Arts a more comfortable and pleasurable experience for everyone on our Rural Outreach in Dhasa, Gujarat, India.

Funds raised will be directed towards the redevelopment of and foundationally re-strengthening this site with a functional floor to ceiling plan and an optimization of the space, which will then help further every Junoon student’s artistic potential and future and allow us to admit more into our fold.

A translation of Hetal's "Hello"

"Namaste. This place is about one hundred and fifty years old. It is currently unoccupied and has been of no use to the village for a while now. Our plan (and hope) is to renovate it and put it to good use for Junoon, since it is so close to our current studio setup which is now unable to accommodate the growing number of Girls and Women on our team. As you can see, this particular structure is in a very bad state. We hope to transform it so it can be serviceable and instrumental for the progress of our Girls and Women on Junoon. Come let's take a look..."

HETAL AND DHARTI persist with our APPEAL

Follow Hetal and Dharti, from our Leaders' batch, as they carry their practice Mats to an open field (farmland). With fresh selections and new batches operating (for both our Women and Girls on this Rural Outreach), we are using every available space in the village to conduct our practices and keep up with training. In the event of rains in the generally heavy monsoon in this region, the Girls hope to shift practices to the heritage structure we are fiercely appealing for, for the use of our steadily increasing team of Women and Girls here in Dhasa.

Open Practice

Dharti and Hetal persist with practice under open skies amid farmland, as they attempt to inspire many more in the village to take to Classical Movement. This is their Junoon and they need all the space, support and security to keep spreading their Art.

More from Hetal & Dharti

Dharti and Hetal, are back at the place we hope to transform and use for our practices, rehearsals and other artistic activities. They continue to explain how we're making use of every available and open space in the village to keep up with practice, often despite the several inconveniences of weather and being in the wilderness, and just how advantageous and critical the provision of another functional, protected and dedicated Arts space will be to the overall progress of the Women and Girls on this Rural Outreach.

Open Practice

Our movement sessions take place in every available open space in the village. This is a typical look at our Girls leading the Women over a session amid farmland, under large trees, no matter what the weather! It's beautiful but (we're afraid) not sustainable when the rains hit and we have to run for cover (something we're looking for through our APPEAL).
