JUNOON IN HOUSTON
JUNOON IN HOUSTON
In Oct ’24, Junoon arrived in Houston, Texas, to receive its accreditation from Dr. Rathna Kumar, a stalwart of an artiste who has established the Anjali Centre for Performing Arts in Sugarland, Houston and has been a pioneer of the Arts in the United States of America for half a century.
Rathna Aunty (as we fondly call her), our Guru, has long been a champion of Junoon. She has handheld us step by step in creating our Indian Classical Dance curriculum, which she contributes to regularly as we train under her tutelage and guidance.
Whilst at Anjali, Junoon presented and taught its methodology to students of Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi at various levels in their dance journeys.
The drills part of this methodology are meant to prepare the students for Classical Dance technique and practice.
We also worked with students training for their first solo recitals (The Arangetram) and helped them correct basics, posture, function and alignment.
It has truly been a privilege and pleasure coming back to our roots and sharing in and of the Classical Dance given to us by Rathna Aunty.
JUNOON AT RICE UNIVERSITY
The Junoon Method has been presented at The Rice University in Houston, Texas as part of Prof. Dr. Rathna Kumar's credit course at the college.
The students are a multi-ethnic group that were made to work on alignment and preparation for Classical Dance in addition to witnessing a demonstration of Bharata Natyam choreography at the very start.
Incredible to see how far Indian Classical Dance has come in its reach beyond South East Asian communities in the West.
